Governance at The Institution of Engineers (India)
IEI operates through a transparent, democratic, and highly structured governance system that ensures professional integrity and nationwide coordination across all engineering disciplines.
National Council
The Institution of Engineers (India) is governed by a National Council, which is the apex decision-making body of the Institution. The Council oversees policy formulation, strategic planning, professional standards, national programs, and the overall functioning of IEI’s State and Local Centres.
The Council is led by the President, supported by the Vice Presidents, elected corporate members, and representatives from across all engineering divisions.
Bye-Laws & Regulations
IEI functions under a well-defined framework of Bye-laws, Rules, and Regulations approved at national level. These govern membership processes, examinations, qualifications, roles of elected bodies, centre operations, and administrative procedures.
The Bye-laws ensure that IEI remains aligned with its Royal Charter obligations and continues to uphold professional standards across engineering disciplines.
Elections
Elections to the National Council and Divisional Boards are conducted periodically, following a transparent and democratic process. Corporate Members of IEI participate in voting to elect representatives who shape the Institution’s direction, governance, and leadership.
The election process is administered through an independent, secure platform to ensure fairness and accountability.
